EMBRYO
Freedom in Music
The caravan moves on: live recordings of the world music masters.
“Embryo is not a genre of music, but a way of life,” a knowledgeable critic once said about the Munich music collective Embryo. In fact, since its founding in 1969, the Krautrock caravan has made stops almost all over the world and has welcomed more than 400 musicians into their ranks.
The CD “Freedom in Music” presents some of them. The top-class Christian Burchard’s band embarks on an intercontinental journey with verve, imagination and on an intercontinental musical journey from India to Afghanistan, Azerbaijan Turkey, Morocco and Munich. The 15 live recordings were made in the years 2003 to 2008 at various festivals and events in Europe and North Africa.
Embryo, who received the German World Music Award “Ruth” in 2008 for their life’s work will be joined by Deobrat Mishra (sitar), Pandit Kumar Lal Mishra (tabla), the New Yorker Larry Porter (rubab), the Munich-based Alphorn Kollektiv, Fakraddin Gavarov (tar), Alexandr Alexandrov (bassoon) as well as the US saxophonist Monty Waters.
